The classic works of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo were one of the keys to Filipinos’ awareness of discrimination and violence from the Spanish conquerors. It identifies social cancers that are still being eradicated to this day. Recently, the Maria Clara and Ibarra show of GMA 7 has been admired by many. The researchers see that the aforementioned television series can be used as a modern platform to introduce social cancer. Because of this, the researchers examined the perception of students and experts in language on this show as an effective platform for introducing social cancer. The researchers performed thematic analysis on the responses of the students and experts, which researchers acquired through snowball sampling and semi-structured interviews. The results show that students and experts on literature have identified two social cancers in the teleserye Maria Clara and Ibarra. These are (1) the abuse of power and (2) the unequal treatment of women. No changes are necessary in the teleserye Maria Clara and Ibarra due to the effective discussion of issues from Rizal’s two novels in a modern way.
