Background: The global healthcare system is facing significant strain due to the growing demand for services driven by an aging population, chronic diseases, and expanding healthcare needs, coupled with a shortage of physicians. This shortage has underscored the need for skilled professionals who can bridge care gaps and improve patient outcomes. Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), registered nurses with advanced clinical competencies, have emerged as a crucial solution. ANPs have proven that they can deliver care outcomes similar to, or even better than, those of physicians by performing many functions that were traditionally reserved for physicians. They have been shown to improve patient satisfaction, chronic disease management, and cost-effective care delivery, while reducing wait times. However, there is still a gap in the literature about how ANP care is implemented practically, especially in hospitals and how evidence-based practice is put into action. Few studies exist that address how ANPs adapt clinical guidelines to individual patient contexts and work through barriers to guideline implementation. This study aims to evaluate the impact of ANPs on clinical outcomes, their role in promoting adherence to healthcare recommendations, and their contributions to improving quality and efficiency in healthcare delivery. By exploring how ANPs operationalize evidence-based practices, this research seeks to provide insights into how they can enhance care, optimize healthcare systems, and inform policy decisions on their integration into healthcare settings.
Result: The result emphasizes the crucial role of Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in driving quality improvement (QI) within healthcare, yet reveals challenges such as limited resources, collaboration barriers, and time constraints that hinder their effectiveness. Despite their potential to improve patient care outcomes, the inconsistent application of QI techniques and lack of significant impact on patient outcomes suggest the need for stronger organizational support, including advanced training, mentorship, and supportive policies. Addressing these barriers can empower APNs and enhance their contributions to healthcare quality improvement.
Conclusion: The study underscores the potential of Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) to improve healthcare quality but highlights barriers such as collaboration challenges, limited resources, and time constraints that hinder their effectiveness in quality improvement (QI) initiatives. To enhance APNs’ impact, healthcare institutions must provide better support systems, including advanced training, policies, and mentorship, while further research is needed to explore the factors that affect the practical application of QI techniques.
