ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN JOURNALISM: ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS AND CHALLENGES

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism has transformed the way news is created, curated, and disseminated, leading to increased efficiency, automation, and audience engagement. AI-driven tools such as automated journalism, Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning algorithms, and AI-powered fact-checking systems have enhanced newsroom productivity and content personalization. However, alongside these advancements, AI in journalism presents significant ethical considerations and challenges, including algorithmic bias, misinformation, lack of transparency, and job displacement. The rise of deepfake technology and AI-generated propaganda raises concerns about the credibility and authenticity of news content, necessitating stringent ethical guidelines and regulatory frameworks. This study explores the ethical dilemmas associated with AI-driven journalism, analyzing how media organizations, journalists, and policymakers can ensure responsible AI adoption. The paper examines issues such as the role of human oversight in AI-assisted reporting, the impact of AI on journalistic integrity, and the need for fair and unbiased AI algorithms. While AI offers numerous advantages, the balance between automation and ethical journalism remains a crucial challenge. This paper underscores the importance of developing AI ethics guidelines, promoting transparency, and maintaining editorial accountability to uphold public trust in AI-generated news.
