Background: Compassion fatigue is a phenomenon observed when medical professionals experience a decline in their ability to provide caring treatment due to chronic exposure to emotionally and mentally draining situations. This situation often leads to burnout which may also affect patient quality care.
Methods: The study made use of the descriptive-correlational research design. This study was conducted in a selected tertiary orthopedic government hospital. The conducted study includes 184 orthopedic nurse respondents.
Result: In light of the study’s results, it is crucial for healthcare institutions to prioritize the well-being of orthopedic nurses by implementing strategies and guidelines to alleviate compassion fatigue. These may include providing education and support, fostering a supportive work environment, promoting self-care practices, offering emotional support mechanisms, and encouraging work-life balance.
Conclusion: By fostering a culture that recognizes and values nurses’ commitment to compassionate care, healthcare organizations can create an environment that promotes well-being and mitigates the impact of burnout.
