This research aims to explore and understand the perspectives of students from low- income families from various universities in the city of Manila regarding Education-Based Meritocracy in the Philippines. In this qualitative study, nine participants were invited using quota sampling and purposive sampling for an interview, and their statements underwent thematic analysis where they shared their views and experiences on education-based meritocracy. Using the narrative inquiry design, the researchers discovered that low- income students generally support the concept of meritocracy if the education system is fair, but their views contradict because the opportunities for each individual are not equal, leading to unequal rewards in the field of education. The results of this research emphasize the challenges faced by students from low-income families in achieving quality education. Despite these challenges, some participants expressed potential solutions and interventions that could help improve a more equitable education. This research can assist the Department of Education, the Government, and Legislators in developing alternative solutions to address the needs of low-income students regarding the current education system in the Philippines.
